WILMINGTON, NC – The Wilmington Sharks plated a double-digit run total for the second consecutive game last night when the club powered to a 17-4 road victory over the Florence RedWolves.

The Sharks crossed the plate eight times in the top of the second inning in the process of  batting around the order for the third time in two games. Donald Hansis (College of Charleston) laced a one-out triple to begin the onslaught then scored on a single by Chaz Bertolani (Lipscomb University) who came around to score when Trotter Harlan (College of Charleston) singled leading to a fielding error in centerfield.

John Behrends (Belmont University) followed with an RBI single to score David Smith (University of Connecticut). Behrends advanced to third as Harlan scored on double by Zack Budzik (UNC-Greensboro) then both came in with runs on a Hansis single. The eighth and final run of the inning came when Taber Mongero (UNC-Wilmington), on base after drawing a walk, scored on a single by Jack Lynch (Ithaca College).

Already leading 9-0 after three frames, the Sharks scored five more runs in their half of the fourth inning beginning with a Mongero walk and run scored on a triple by Hansis. Hansis scored on an infield putout followed by consecutive walks issued Bertolani and Smith who both scored on a double by Harlan. Behrends pushed the fifth run in with an RBI single to score Harlan to extend the Sharks lead to 14-0 after three and a half innings.

The RedWolves answered with one run in the bottom of the fourth and two in the bottom of the eighth inning before the Sharks added three of their own between the eighth and ninth innings.

Harlan and Behrends both finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate a double a piece and Harlan scoring three runs and plating two RBIs while Behrends scored once and notching three RBIs. Hansis earned recognition from the league with his 4-for-6 performance including two triples, five RBIs and two runs scored. Lynch was the third Shark with multiple hits as he went 3-for-5 with a run scored, three RBI and a triple of his own.

Rich Ciufo (Richmond) and Budzik were each 1-for-4 with runs scored as Ciufo scored a run and Budzik doubled and tallied an RBI. Berotlani finished the day 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI followed by Makarewicz, Rece Sabo (Ohio Valley) and Damon Manyard (USC-Upstate) each going 1-for-2. Smith drew two walks and scored a run and Chase Nixon (NC State) walked and crossed the plate once.

Wilmington starting pitcher Nick Logusch (East Carolina) earned the victory with five and two-thirds innings of work allowing one run while walking three and striking out nine. Blake Bennett (Jacksonville State) and Tanner Sinicki (Binghamton University) combined for two and one-thirds innings of relief allowing three runs and two walks. Liam Doolan (Tennessee Wesleyan) closed the door on the RedWolves in the ninth as he walked two and struck out one.

The Sharks return home to Buck Hardee Field tonight, July 30 with a 7:05 PM first pitch and travel to Florence again on Saturday, July 31 to conclude the regular season.
