Wilmington, NC – The Sharks won their first game of the season in blowout fashion, beating the Morehead City Marlins 8-0 on Thursday.

What began as a rainy Thursday in “The Shark Tank” ended with a much-needed win led by a six-run second inning. John Behrends (Belmont University) hit a two-run homer to ignite the Sharks offense and the crowd for what would be the turning point of the game.

David Smith (LaSalle), Zack Budzik (UNC Greensboro), Rece Sabo (Ohio Valley) combined for four RBIs. Jack Lynch (Ithica College) had two hits on the night, while Chaz Bertolani (Lipscomb) had 1-hit in three at-bats.

Left-handed starting pitcher Andy Bean (Belmont) got the start for the Sharks, earning his first win in a Sharks uniform. Bean pitched for six innings while only drawing three walks and striking out seven innings.

Righty Ashton Sturgell (Georgia College) pitched three innings of relief, only giving up one hit and striking out three Marlins.

The Sharks return home on Friday, June 4 as they take on the Palmetto Pirates. First pitch is set for 7:35pm at the Buck Hardee Field at Legion Stadium.
