A second straight walk off win in extra innings gave the Sharks their third win in a row as number three looked similar to number two, 2-1, in 11, over the Martinsville Mustangs. While last night's game came to a close on a booming double, tonight's game winner didn't make it past the pitchers mound. Instead Allen King's(UNC-Wilmington) squeeze bunt was perfectly placed to bring home Greg Bachman(Austin Peay) with the winning run. J.C. Casey threw nine innings of one run ball, allowing just a solo home run in the fourth. He scattered six hits over his nine frames and retired the last 11 batters that he faced. Sean Toler(Missouri State) and Tyler Andersen(Utah) combined on two scoreless frames, with Toler getting the win. Click to listen to a "Shark Bytes" recap.
Playing through some patches of rain the Sharks, down 1-0 until the eighth, put runners on first and second in front of Andrew Guerra(St. Louis). The Texan did not dissappoint rifling a first pitch into right field to tie the game at one. Then in the bottom of the 11th with one down, Bachman was hit by the pitch. He stole second and swiped third as the catcher's throw sailed into centerfield. On the very next pitch, King laid down his supremely placed 15 footer, and the Sharks walked off again. The Sharks next home game is coming up on Sunday, a double header against the Wilson Tobs. Both games will be two seven inning contests making up a game that was canceled on July 17th. The first game will get underway at 4 p.m. out at the "Shark Tank" with gates opening at 3 p.m. The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the “Shark Tank” for an average of 1,650 per game.
