Playing in their first double header of the season the Sharks fell twice, 5-4 then 3-2 to the Fayetteville SwampDogs Thursday night at the "Shark Tank." The second loss, supposed to be a seven inning regulation back end of the double header, went eight innings before the SwampDogs plated their winning run, while Fayetteville won the first with a run in the tenth. Both starters on the night, Daniel Cropper(UNC-Wilmington) and Chris Kennedy(Davidson) pitched well enough to win, though neither would figure into the decision. Cropper left the first game, a continuation of a rain suspended game from July, 6th, after the seventh inning with a 4-1 lead. The Swampdogs though tied it with three in the top half of the ninth off of Tyler Andersen(Utah) to send it to extras, then plated the winning run in the tenth. Kennedy threw five and two thirds of one hit ball allowing two runs, just one earned. The Sharks rallied for two more runs to get him off the hook for the loss, but could muster no more as Fayetteville picked up a run off Ryan McGrath(Wake Forest) to take the win in extras. Offensively the night belonged to a few Sharks. Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure) had two hits and an RBI on the night. A base knock in each game extended his hitting streak to eight full games. Adam Eggemeyer(SIU-Edwardsville) had two hits and two RBI on the night, while Alex Hill(UNC-Wilmington) chipped in a two RBI double in the losing cause in game number one. Wilmington goes on the road to Columbia tomorrow, but will face off against the SwampDogs again Saturday night for the final Fireworks Extravaganza of the year. The game starts at 7 p.m. with gates opening one hour earlier at 6 p.m. The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the “Shark Tank” for an average of 1,650 per game.
