Kyle Lewis, a 6’4” 188-pound sophomore left-handed pitcher out of Topsail High made 12 appearances in 2006, accumulating 11.2 innings pitched with 8 strikeouts.  He was redshirted during the 2007 season.  So far in 2008, he’s appeared in 3 games with 8.2 innings pitched and 8 strikeouts, with no decisions.  At Topsail High School, Lewis was a 2-time NCBCA All-State Selection and an All-Star honoree for NCPreps.com.  During his prep career, he compiled a 24-4 record, including an 8-2 record with 101 strikeouts during his senior season.

UNCW freshman David Shambley hails from Green Hope High School in Cary, NC.  The 5’11” 200-pound backup catcher has started 2 of the 3 games he’s played in this season.  Shambley enjoyed an excellent high school career at Green Hope, being named to the 4A All-State list as a senior and was a 3-time All-Tri 8 Conference selection.  As a senior, Shambley hit .412 with 4 home runs and 12 runs batted in.  He set a school record during his junior season with 41 hits, en route to a .456 average.  Shambley played in the North Carolina East vs. West All-Star Game in 2007.

“I'm looking forward to meeting and playing with some new people from across the country,” said Shambley.  “I'm also looking forward to hopefully getting a lot of innings so I can be an improved ball player when next fall rolls around.”

Seahawk sophomore outfielder Bobby Leeper rounds out a flurry of signings this week by the Sharks.  Leeper stands in at 6’1” and 177 pounds and is out of Wakefield High School in Raleigh, NC.  In 2007, Leeper saw consistent action appearing in 28 games (20 starts).  He hit .286 overall and enjoyed a 7-game hitting streak going 13 for 27 (.481) during that stretch.  Leeper was a standout during his prep career at Wakefield.  As a senior he was an All-State selection, a 2-time All-Capitol 7 Conference selection, All-Region as a junior and senior, lettered 3 times, and played in the North Carolina East vs. West All-Star Game.  His teams won 3 conference titles (going 59-13 over that stretch).  He is a Presidential and North Carolina Scholar and was a 4-time Academic All-Conference honoree.

“I want to get better in all aspects of the game, and I hope to make some new friends, too,” stated Leeper, who added that he’s really looking forward to his time in Wilmington this summer.
