While split between the two clubs, three Sharks will represent the host team at the 2009 CPL All-Star Game presented by Taco Bell next week. Daniel Cropper(UNC-Wilmington) will be the lone Shark on the National squad while he will be opposed on the American team by Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure) and Adam Eggemeyer(SIU-Edwardsville). Of the three, Eggemeyer will be the only Shark in the starting line-up, getting the nod in one of the outfield spots. The lefty from SIU-Edwardsville powered the Sharks through the first weeks of the season. He picked up a player of the week honor for his efforts at the beginning of June. Eggemeyer is hitting .268 on the season, leading the Sharks in home runs with five and second on the club to Bosnik with 22 RBI. Cropper meanwhile, coming out of the pen, earned his All-Star nod with a 1.97ERA and 50 strike outs, while holding opponents to just a .173 batting average. The righty out of Snow Hill, Maryland has just a 2-3 record but he has more than held the Sharks in the eight starts he has made this season. The Sharks final All-Star, Jesse Bosnik, has been a model of consistency for the Sharks. With his average hovering around the .300 mark all season, the St. Bonaventure Bonny leads the Sharks in RBI with 25 and is tied for the lead in stolen bases with 11. He has also done everything to help defensively, playing both middle infield positions as well as seeing time in left field. The Sharks will host the All-Star Game and Fan Fest beginning on Monday, July 20th and running thru Tuesday, July 21st. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. on July 21st. Monday’s Fan Fest festivities will include the “Home Town Heroes” softball game as well as the 2009 CPL All-Star Home Run Derby, both on Monday night at the “Shark Tank.” Gates open at 5 p.m. with the softball game at 6 p.m. and the derby at 8 p.m. The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the “Shark Tank” for an average of 1,650 per game.
