There are three members of the Wilmington Sharks returning from last season. Chris Kennedy, Chris Powell, and 2008 CPL All-Star Kolby Epley will be leading a new team of Sharks this summer. All three attend college in the Carolinas and look forward to returning to the Port City for another summer season.
Chris Kennedy, is a junior, left-handed pitcher out of Davidson College. He finished his 2008 season at Davidson with 38.2 innings pitched in 16 appearances and nine starts. Last summer with the Sharks, Kennedy held opponents to a .295 batting average and had a 1.46 ERA, going 2-0 for the season. Chris Powell, a junior, right-handed pitcher out of Presbyterian College is another returning Shark. He expects to start this season and is looking forward to returning. Last season with the Sharks, Powell kept batters at bay with a .243 batting average and had a 3.48 ERA. "I am looking forward to being home and seeing some of my old teammates." said Powell. "I’m stoked." Kolby Epley, a sophomore catcher out of the College of Charleston and 2008 CPL All-Star, will also be returning to the Sharks this season. "I expect my role to change with the College of Charleston. I expect to receive more playing time," said Epley, "and I attribute that greatly to the experience I had with the Sharks last summer." Last summer, playing for the Sharks, Epley had a .245 batting average and 21 RBI in 49 games. "I also think my role with the Sharks will change," said Epley. "As a returner, I expect to lead the team and be a bigger part of the team as a whole." In the offseason, the three kept in touch with former teammates via FaceBook and text messages. During the summer, their schedule consists of workouts, practices, games, and spending time with teammates. "The things I look forward to the most are meeting new teammates and a new season of baseball for the Sharks." said Epley. "I also look forward to coming back to the ‘Shark Tank’ and playing in front of our fans, because we have the best in the CPL!" Currently, the three are preparing for the start of the 2009 college baseball season. Their first games of the season will be played on February 20. The Wilmington Sharks are a member of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League. Opening day at the "Shark Tank" is Thursday, May 28th against the Columbia Blowfish at 7pm.
