The Wilmington Sharks and Wilson Tobs will observe the Independence Day holiday with a CPL match up tonight at Historic Fleming Stadium.

The Sharks have struggled against the Tobs this season, with only one win against these CPL rivals in the first half. The Wilmington club has yet to find success within the city limits of Wilson, North Carolina, with an 0-3 record at Fleming.

Daniel Cropper is set to toe the rubber for the Sharks. The UNCW right hander will be making his seventh start of the season. So far he is even in 2009 with a 2-2 record, a 2.39 ERA and a team high 47 strike outs in just under 38 innings. Cropper will face lefty Trent Howard for the Tobs.

Cropper took on the Tobacconists once before, picking up the only win for the Sharks over Wilson this season back on the third of June. Cropper dusted off seven strike outs in seven frames, giving up just a single run on four hits to earn his first victory of the season.

Offensively the Sharks have struggled at times, but Outfielder Andrew Guerra, after an off day yesterday, will be riding a five game hit streak into the contest. With seven hits over the five games the St. Louis junior has also chipped in five RBI and three runs scored to kick off the second half.

Gametime is set for 7 p.m. in the friendly hamlet of Wilson, though the now 1-and-3 second half Sharks will look to spurn that southern hospitality and spoil the 4th of July festivities for the 2-and-1 Tobs.

The Sharks will be back home for a "Mothers Monday" to kick off Green Week. Kids eat a free meal with admission while adults get all you can eat for just ten dollars.

The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the “Shark Tank” for an average of 1,650 per game.
