Pitcher Max Friedman will be in Wilmington to join the Sharks for the summer by the end of the week. But first he had some business to take care of in the form of winning the NJCAA Division II title with his Parkland Community College teammates.

Friedman got the start for the the Cobras in the championship game against the Fighting Artichokes of Scottsdale Community College. The right hander fired eight and one third innings, allowing just three runs, striking out 10 and leaving the Aritchoke heart-broken on thier way back to Airzona.

The win was Friedman's first of the tournament but overall his 11th of the season. During Parkland’s ’09 run to the  championship, he was the team’s most productive starter. Posting a 2.98 ERA in 11 starts, the Chicago native never lost a game and spun five complete games, turning in more than 60 innings.

A 2007 graduate of Whitney Young High School, Friedman is in his second season at Parkland C.C. During his freshman campaign he compiled a 3-1 record with a 3.20 ERA over nearly 40 innings pitched. He also racked up 41 strike-outs during his first run with the Cobras. The right hander is expected to arrive in Wilmington sometime before the end of this week.

The Wilmington Sharks next home game is Monday, June 1st against the Wilson Tobs. It’s the first Mother’s Monday of the season presented by North Chase Spalon and Z107.5. Kids eat free all night long and for mom’s, North Chase Spalon will be pampering them with great treats throughout the game. Gates open at 6 p.m. with first pitch set for 7 p.m.
