Though it will not count for the Coastal Plain stats and standings, only time will tell how a 16-4 trouncing of the Catawba Valley Stars in an exhibition game will help the Sharks. 16 runs, nine in a single inning when the Sharks sent 14 to the plate, on 14 hits. Andrew Guerra(St. Louis) hit a grand slam to drive in four runs on the night, while Christian Overstreet(Missouri State) drove in five on two home runs and a two run single. Adam Schrader(SW-Minnesota State) started and was credited with the win, throwing four frames of two run ball, leaving just before the run scoring bottom of the fourth. Trailing 2-1 into the fourth, things would not stay that way for long. A Kolby Epley(College of Charleston) double followed by an Alex Hill(UNC-Wilmington) two base knock tied things at two while Overstreet's first home run put the Sharks up for good. Six of the next seven Sharks reached base, five scoring before their were two outs in the frame, nine Sharks in all would cross the plate before the inning came to a close. In the sixth with a run in and two down the bases were loaded for Guerra who promptly unloaded on a pitch, sending it deep to left center. It was Guerra's second hit of the night, accounting for all four of his RBI. After Garrett Cooper(St. Louis) relieved Schrader in the fifth and threw three innings giving up two runs, Kyle Smith(Central Missouri) and Hunter Ford(Campbell) combined to nail down the final six outs of the game. The Sharks are on the road in Florence tomorrow but will be back for a "Thirsty Thursday" against the Wilson Tobs. It's dollar beer and dollar soft drinks as always presented by Front Street Brewery. Gates open at six, game time at seven. The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the “Shark Tank” for an average of 1,650 per game.
