The Wilmington Sharks went into Thursday night's double header with the Columbia Blowfish badly needing two wins to stay alive in the Coastal Plain League playoff hunt. By the end of the night they had accomplished just that by sweeping the Blowfish in the two game set. In the first game the Sharks could only muster one run, but that would prove to be just enough as UNC sophmore Bryant Gaines continued his hot streak and posted yet another shut out. The second game featured another great pitching performance, this time by Kevin Light, who held the Blowfish to just one run. The Sharks hitters also preceded the post-game fireworks show with some fireworks of their own belting three homeruns in the game. Rand Smith, Seth Williams, and Nate Recknagel all got in on the action. Fans, there are only two home games left for the 2007 Wilmington Sharks so get out to Buck Hardee Field before it's too late. Monday, August 6th the Sharks take on the Florence Red Wolves at 7:00pm and Wednesday, August 8th the Sharks close out their season against the New Bern River Rats. This game will also start at 7:00pm. |
