Wilmington, N.C. – Continuing the busy offseason, the Wilmington Sharks have announced the signing of two Clemson Tigers for the upcoming 2008 season, a right-handed pitcher and a catcher. John Nester, a freshman out of Riverside High
School in Greer, South Carolina, enjoyed an extremely successful prep
career, earning two-time All-State and All-Region honors, and is a
member of the South Carolina Select Team. In addition, Nester was part
of two state championship teams and four regional championship teams,
lettering all four seasons he was on the team. Perfect Game rated him
as the #2 prospect (#1 catching prospect) in the state. For Clemson,
Nester has already shown some pop early in the season hitting .400 with
2 homers and 3 RBIs in 5 games. He is slated as the backup catcher for
the Tigers this season.
“I hope to bring a positive role and do whatever is needed to help the [Sharks] win. I hopefully can be a great overall player and help everyone else do the same,” stated Nester. In addition, Nester will be joined by Clemson teammate Kyle Deese. A freshman from Chapman High School in Inman, South Carolina, Deese enjoyed a successful high school career by garnering an All-State selection as a senior and All-Region honors as a junior and senior, lettering three times. For the 2008 season, the right-hander will be pitching out of the Tiger bullpen. “I will be able to bring hard work, determination, and a refuse-to- lose attitude to the Sharks,” said Deese. “I'm hoping to learn a lot more about pitching and be able to get in some innings and [improve] for next year.” For more information about the Wilmington Sharks or the Coastal Plain League, call (910) 343-5621, or log onto www.wilmingtonsharks.com. |
