The Wilmington Sharks signed three new pitchers to the 2009 roster. Sophomore, right handed pitchers JC Casey, Max Friedman, and Ryan McGrath have committed to joining the Sharks for the upcoming summer season.
Casey, a sophomore pitcher from Missouri State University, made eight appearances this season while starting four of them. He fanned 20 batters during 26 innings of work and also picked up a save for the bears this season.
Friedman, a sophomore pitcher from Parkland College, was the ace of the Cobras staff and made 11 starts this season. He compiled a 10-0 record with 64 strikeouts in 60 innings. Friedman posted a dazzling 2.98 ERA while throwing five complete games.
McGrath, a sophomore pitcher from Wake Forest University, made 20 appearances on the mound compiling a 3-1 record on the season. In 20 innings on the mound McGrath fanned 16 hitters for the Demon Deacons.
The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the "Shark Tank" for an average of 1,650 per game.
