The Wilmington Sharks have signed two pitchers from the University of Utah, the latest additions to the 2009 roster. Sophomore, relief pitchers Tyler Anderson and Stephen Streich have committed to joining the Sharks for the summer season.
Last season at Utah, Anderson kept opposing teams at bay with a 2.95 ERA, holding batters to a .287 avg. He pitched 21 innings, made 17 relief appearances, and made 15 strikeouts. In his senior year of high school in Utah, the 5A state MVP and first team all-state honoree helped lead his team to a state championship.
His college teammate Streich, finished his 2008 season at Utah with 20 strikeouts and 4.91 ERA, while limiting opposing teams to a .279 batting average. A transfer student from the University of San Diego, he made 17 relief appearance and recorded 20 strikeouts. He helped lead his high school to a state championship and a number 23 national ranking his junior year in Phoenix, Ariz.
“This is my first year as a Shark,” said Streich, “but I'm very anxious to get out there and be a part of the team.”
Both players look forward to joining the Sharks and being involved with another organization.
“I love playing on the road,” said Streich, “so summer ball is a lot like one really long road trip. And I really like meeting new players and teammates. It's an experience that people will never be able to take away from you.”
