The Sharks offense could not keep up with the Fayetteville bats as the Swampdogs used a seven run third to beat the Sharks 15-7.

The Swampdogs jumped out to a 9-2 lead against starter Brett Bloomquist and reliever Matt Freeman after three innings. The Sharks battled back and cut the Fayetteville lead to 9-7, but that was as close as they would get.

The lefty Bloomquist threw two and one third innings, giving up five hits and four runs. Freeman, the first of four relievers on the night, made his first appearance for the Sharks in the third. The righty gave up six runs, five earned, on six hits through his three innings of work. Kyle Deese, Justice French and Peter Larson all worked to close out the Swampdogs.

Seven Fayetteville errors left the door open for the Sharks to fight their way back into the game. Wilmington put up single runs in the fourth and fifth, then three in the sixth. The Sharks were threatening to get more in the sixth but a close call at third went the other way and the inning ended. Manager Daniel Hersey was ejected from the game for arguing that call at third. The Sharks would get no closer than two as the next inning the Swampdogs picked up three runs to take the lead for good.

At the plate shortstop Ben Kline went two for four and scored a run. Cory Lyda was in the thick of the scoring again, but with no RBI's to show for it. An error was charged to Fayetteville when Lyda hit a deep fly that was mishandled by the centerfielder. That smash drove in two and put Lyda on third. French made his second appearance on the mound for the Sharks getting a strike out to end the 6th, and then throwing another scoreless frame.

The Sharks will get another shot at the Swampdogs Saturday night at Buck Hardee Field. Saturday is Hannah Montana themed night with promotions for the kids throughout the night and a post game concert for everyone featuring Rob Ronner. All that gets underway at 7pm.
