Newcomers Jeff Fetzner and Ryan Maxa will be joining the Wilmington Sharks as assistant coaches this season. They will be working with Jake Tenhouse, the head coach for the Sharks and assistant coach for St. Joseph’s College, who handpicked them for the jobs.

"Jeff, was my assistant this past summer for the Hornell Dodgers of the NYCBL." said Tenhouse. "He has a great baseball mind and was an integral part of our success. I love working with him."

Fetzner played at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, N.Y. and. as senior, led them to their first-ever NCAA Division III playoff appearance.

"Coach Fetz is a great base running and infield coach and also has a great feel for game management." said Tenhouse. "His knowledge makes him an excellent resource for the guys and for me."

Maxa, a senior, left-handed pitcher at Gardner-Webb University, will be graduating in May and currently has a 3.71 ERA and holding batters to a .275 batting average at the plate. He played for Tenhouse as a member of the Hornell Dodgers last summer.

"Coach Maxa will bring a great deal of energy to the park every day. He loves being around the game and has a great feel for how to set up hitters and how a pitcher can use his stuff." said Tenhouse. "Maxa flat out loves to compete. He will be a great fit on our staff and with the players."

The trio led their New York collegiate league team to a league-best 32-10 record, and hopes to achieve the same level of success with the Sharks this summer.

"I wanted a staff that knows the game and represents what we want our team to be all about this summer: Playing hard, competing, and having fun." said Tenhouse.
