The Wilmington Sharks reached out to the Midwest and South with the signings of Nebraska infielder Ben Kline and Miami catcher Jason Hagerty. hagerty-kline_pa_jpg.jpg
Kline, a 6’3” 181-pound shortstop from Nebraska, is in the midst of his first season with the Cornhuskers (25-6-1, ranked 9th by Baseball America), hitting .242 with 6 doubles and 13 RBIs in 31 games played (28 starts).

The Omaha, Nebraska native attended Omaha Central High School where he had a very respectful prep career.  Kline is a two-time First Team All-State shortstop (2006, 2007) where he hit over .400 in all three seasons while with Central.  He helped lead them to their first playoff berth since 1983 hitting .458 with 6 home runs, 7 triples, and 35 RBIs.

Kline has a lengthy list of honors to go along with his solid high school numbers.  In addition to his All-State awards, he was chosen as the Nebraska Perfect Game USA Player of the Year, a First Team All-District V Selection by the National High School Baseball Coaches Association, and was rated as the #2 prospect in the state for the 2007 draft by Baseball America.  In addition, he participated in the USA Baseball All-Star Game.

Academically, Kline maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and collected academic All-State honors in both baseball and basketball.

Jason Hagerty comes to Wilmington out of the #1 ranked University of Miami (30-3).  Hagerty is a 6’3” 220-pound switch-hitting catcher playing in his sophomore season with the Hurricanes.  Currently, he’s hitting .311 in 21 games played (19 starts) with 3 doubles, 6 home runs, and 24 runs batted in.  In addition to his excellent power at the plate, Hagerty has played solid defense at catcher committing only 1 error resulting in a .994 fielding percentage.

Hagerty is from St. Louis, Missouri where he attended St. John Vianney High School.  While there, he was a three-time All-State First Team Selection and secured the Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year in 2006.  During his high school career, St. John Vianney was crowned conference champs three times and won the Missouri State Championship twice.
