An offensive explosion in an exhibition is nice, but an offensive explosion against the first place Redwolves would be very nice.
Two more Sharks have been named to a CPL All-Star team, meanwhile the club will travel down to Florence with a musical starter on the mound.
Your Wilmington Sharks are five games out of a play-off birth with 17 to play. Who knows what may happen? But to find out the dish on what has happend, read this edition of Shark Bits.
Last Game Synopsis: In an exhibition contest the Sharks
pounded away at the Catawba Valley Stars with a 16-4 win.
Christian Overstreet had a big night with two home runs and
a two run single, making up a five RBI night. Andrew Guerra
chipped in a grand slam home run. Adam Schrader gave up two
runs on just a single hit through four to pick up the win.
Harper’s Hill: Ryne Harper gets the start for the Sharks in
Florence tonight. The right hander out of Austin Peay will
be making his first regular start since throwing two frames
in a rain out a week ago. On the season Harper has a 1-3
record with a 3.60 ERA and has struck out 29 while walking
just 13. Harper’s only win of the season came against these
Redwolves as he threw five frames in a 10-7 Shark win.
Two More All Stars: Cropper and Tenhouse vs. Eggemeyer and
Bosnik. As the American All-Star squad was revealed today
we find that Jesse Bosnik and Adam Eggemeyer will represent
the host Sharks in the 2009 CPL All-Star game. Eggemeyer, a
one time player of the week was voted to the club as a
starter thanks to a hot start and power numbers to rival
any in the league. Bosnik has been the most consistent
player for the Sharks in 2009, leading the team in RBI and
hovering right around the .300 mark.
Why Not J.C.?: On the season J.C. Casey has thrown a complete
game allowing no earned runs, an eight inning game allowing
no runs, and a ten inning game allowing no runs on his way
to a 1.96 ERA, but not the All Star Game. On the year the
righty has racked up nearly 60 innings including a stretch
of 19 scoreless, but will not get to throw a single inning
in the All-Star game.
To Break A Curse: The Sharks won just 4 games after beating
Catawba Valley last time, but if a 16-4 win can’t reverse a
possible curse, what would? Only time will tell if the
offensive exhibition will spur the Sharks to a run towards
the play-offs. With 17 games to play the Sharks sit five
games back of the nearest play-off spot.
