Welcome, officially, to baseball in the month of August. The season is coming to a close for the Sharks, meaning you need to get your fill of "Shark Bits" before they're gone.
Another close game for the Sharks last night, the hitting was just not there, but the Sharks will get at least 14 frames of swings in today for the double header.
They say a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. I say, two baseball games in a day is far better than hunting for birds with your bare hands.
Last Game Synopsis: Though they out hit Florence in another
pitcher’s duel Saturday night, the Sharks lost as the only
tally in a 1-0 victory belonged to the Redwolves. Chris
Kennedy started and threw seven strong innings, allowing
just two hits, but the lone tally of the night. Kyle Smith
held the Wolves to just one hit in a scoreless eighth
frame, but the Sharks bats could muster no more.
Hip, Hip, Double Dip: Hooray! Extra baseball today. For just
the second time this season the Sharks will take part in a
double header. The last came here at home against
Fayetteville. The Sharks dropped both decisions that day by
just a single run, both in extra frames. This double header
will be making up a game that never got started on July
17th in Wilson. Both contests will go seven scheduled
innings.
Minnesota Wild: Adam Schrader will take the hill against the
Tobs in the first game of the double header. The Southwest
Minnesota State righty will be making his second start back
after an absence due to injury. In his last outing he
allowed just one run through six frames to Columbia. On the
season Schrader compiled a 4.82 ERA in seven starts over 37
and one third innings pitched.
Flying the Coop: In game number two the Sharks will hand the
ball to Garrett Cooper. The Connecticut native will be
making just his second CPL start on the season. He’s had
his struggles compiling a 9.35 ERA in just under nine
frames, but will look to head into the fall with a good
outing under his belt to close the summer.
A Run to Win By: For the third game in a row, and the 11th
time on this second half, a Sharks game was decided by just
one run last night. The Sharks have gone 3 and 8 in the
single tally ball-games. Five more games this half have
been decided by two runs, and eleven of the 24 Shark’s
second half contests have been decided in extra frames. The
Sharks are 6 and 5 in extras in half number two.
