The Sharks scored before and after a nearly two hour rain delay, in the end pounding out 16 runs on 16 hits to beat the SwampDogs 16-5 in a late Monday night affair. With runs in seven of the nine frames, including four innings in which the Sharks scored two or more runs, the Sharks posted their biggest run total of the season with 16 and knocked out their most hits of the season also with 16. Wilmington jumpped out to an early lead before the rains came. Adam Gray(Mercyhurst) walked with one down in the top of the first. After a Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure) single, Andrew Guerra(St. Louis) reached on an error that allowed Bosnik to scamper all the way around from second. Then with two down and Gray on third, Alex Hill(UNC-Wilmington) slapped a single to left to make it 2-0. Hunter Ford(Campbell) struggled in his first frame, and left after the delay after allowing three runs. The Sharks would get him off the hook for the loss however with a run in the second on a solo home run off the bat of Trevor Willis(Iowa). After a scoreless frame from reliever Sean Toler(Missouri State), Wilmington took the lead with two runs in the top of the third. Bosnik and Guerra once again both reached, this time by singles. With runners on the corners, Greg Bachman(Austin Peay) lofted a ball to center to bring home the tie breaking run. The inning did not end there. Hill once again singled, sending Guerra to second with one down. Allen King(UNC-Wilmington) then grounded one through the legs of the short stop to make it 5-3 Sharks after two and a half. Toler threw shut our baseball from the second inning on. He scattered two hits through the seventh inning walking one and striking out Four. Toler picked up the win to move to 3-1 on the season, he gave way to Kyle Smith(Central Missouri) who worked through the final two frames allowing just a run on one hit. Toler's scoreless six and a third gives him 16 straight innings without allowing an earned run. Scoring was in abundance for the Sharks as they once again would score in the fifth and sixth inning to make it 9-3 Sharks. Bachman chipped in an RBI triple in the sixth while Christian Overstreet(Missouri State) smashed an RBI double. For the first time this year a Shark had five hits in a game. Hill's 5-for-6 night is just the third time this season that a CPL player has had five hits in a game. Bosnik also ended the night with plenty of hits, going 4-for-7 with a double. Wilmington will wrap up the season on Tuesday night against the Columbia Blowfish. It's a Two for Tuesday and Fan Appreciation Night out at the Shark Tank.
