"Shark Bits" for July 31st Print E-mail
Friday, 31 July 2009 05:28

What a night into a big day for Sharks baseball. A thrilling game last night, "Striking Out Cancer" tonight, its good to be a Shark.

Online bidding is still open for the pink jerseys to be worn by the Sharks tonight. Those proceeds will go to benefit cancer charities. Meanwhile, Redwolves and walk offs apparently have a lot in common and a North Carolina native will be making his last start of this season.

In a world full of tumult, "Shark Bits" still remain.

Last Game Synopsis: For the 12th time this season the Sharks
needed extra frames, and they made sure the 2-1 decision went
their way, though a call to start the bottom of the tenth
did not. But three base hits later the Sharks had a walk off
win courtesy of Alex Hill. Daniel Cropper and Hunter Ford
combined on eight and a third frames of shut out ball,
while Ryan McGrath picked up the win.

Wildcattin Kennedy: Davidson lefty Chris Kennedy will take
the hill tonight for the Sharks against Martinsville. Four
of Kennedy’s 12 appearances on the season have come as a
starter. He’s compiled a 4.60 ERA and 29 strike outs in
just over 31 innings pitched. He is coming off a solid
outing in which he allowed just one earned run and struck
out five in just under six frames on July 23rd.

Like Peas and Carrots: Redwolves and walk off wins. Two times
now this season the Sharks have won a home contest in their
final at bat, and both of those came against the same
Florence Redwolves. It was on the first of this month that
the Sharks and Wolves went scoreless through 11 to see the
Sharks walk off in 12, then last night the ten inning
victory again sent Florence on a long empty bus ride south.

One Run Anyone?: Last night marks the 16th Sharks game this
year decided by just a single run. With the win the club
rolls to four wins and twelve losses in the single digit
contests. The Sharks have split the wins between home and
away, with two extra inning walk off wins at home this
season.

I Have 50 Do I Hear 60?:  Bidding continues through tonight’s
game on Sharks commemorative pink jerseys to be worn for
“Striking Out Cancer” night. All of the jersey’s worn by
the players and coaches for the Sharks will be available
through a silent auction during the game. Minimum bid for
each jersey is $50 dollars with the proceeds going to
cancer research.

(Editor's Note: Online bidding will continue until 5 p.m. Friday night.)
