A four run second inning put the Sharks in a hole they could never recover from as they lost 5-2 to the Wilson Tobs Thursday night.

In a game delayed over an hour by rain, the Sharks did not score until an RBI double off the bat of Greg Bachman(Austin Peay) in the bottom of the eighth. Another run came home in the frame, but it was not enough to overcome the Tobs.

Daniel Cropper(UNC-Wilmington) was touched up for four runs in his five inning start. He struck out seven Tobs on the night, but he loaded the bases before recording the first out in the second allowing the four runs to come home. The loss moves Cropper to 2-4 on the season.

Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure) picked up three hits in the Sharks last home game before the All-Star break, but was left on base all three times. Bachman's RBI hit came after a single to lead off the frame by Adam Eggemeyer(SIU-Edwardsville) and a walk to Adam Gray(Mercyhurst). Gray came home after Bachman's double on a ground out by Allen King(UNC-Wilmington).

The Sharks will take on the Tobs on the road tomorrow, and won't be home until next Thursday against the Fayetteville Swampdogs. In the meantime the Sharks are hosting the 2009 CPL All-Star Game and Fan Fest Monday and Tuesday. The Fan Fest features a Home Run Derby and Charity Softball game, with the main event taking place Tuesday at 7:05.

The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the “Shark Tank” for an average of 1,650 per game.
