June the 30th is a date chock full of significance. It was on this day in 1859 that a French acrobat crossed Niagara Falls on a tight rope. Same day, different century, Cy Young throws his third career no hit game on a warm day in 1908. In 1936 the epic novel Gone With the Wind is published for the first time. In 1971, the 26th Amendment lowered the voting age to 18 on this very date.

Now some 38 years later, with the eyes of history watching, the Wilmington Sharks will launch the second half of the 2009 CPL season. With the ups and downs of the first half behind them, the Sharks will have new life for the next 28 games and another shot at a division crown.

Ryne Harper will kick things off in the second half, taking on the Blowfish tonight. It will be the Tennessean's sixth start of the year. He is coming of his best performance in his last start, allowing just three runs and six hits over seven innings of work. Overall he is 1-2 on the season with a 4.03 ERA.

Sharks hitting has dropped to ninth in the league over the last 12 games. Allen King however has been raising his own average. Over his last four ballgames the UNCW catcher is hitting .333 with three doubles and three RBI. Reliever D.J. Nordquist has thrown two quality innings from the pen in his debut outings, not allowing a hit, striking out one.

It's Two for Tuesday tonight out at the ball park. Two for one tickets and two for one hot dogs will be on sale starting when the gates open at 6 p.m. First pitch is set an hour later at 7 p.m.

The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the “Shark Tank” for an average of 1,650 per game.
