Check out this week's Hiro of the Week, Florida Gulf Coast freshman Mike Alvarez.

The Wilmington Sharks have named infielder Mike Alvarez the “Hiro of the Week.”  The Florida Gulf Coast freshman earned the distinction this week after being named the Rawlings Co-Hitter of the week.

“Mike is a clutch hitter for our team, he always comes through for the team,” said Coach Daniel Hersey.

The reliable Mike Alvarez has continued his climb up the CPL hitting charts. The Florida Gulf Coast product has collected 38 hits to give him a league leading .392 batting average. Alvarez's 27 RBI on the season also put him near the top of the charts. Striking out only five times and walking 19, Alvarez has posted an on base percentage constantly hovering around .500. Defensively Alvarez proved his worthiness from day one. The natural second baseman has been plugged in at third base as well as left field while still maintaining a .965 fielding percentage.

The “Hiro of the Week” award is presented by Hiro Japanese Steakhouse.  They are located at 222 Old Eastwood Road near Kohl’s department store. For more information call 794-1570 or go to their website http://www.hirojapanese.net/
