California natives Jordan Casas and Ryan Vander Tuig share their experiences and personal favorites about life on the opposite coast. Casas is a red-shirt freshman of Long Beach State and Vander Tuig is a freshman of San Jose State.

It would be Jim Wells (the pitching coach for Alabama) You never leave home without…my cell phone Best thing you got for free? My computer In 10 years where do you want to be? Married and living comfortably What sort of interest do you tend to gravitate towards on your off time? Going to the gym and trying to stay healthy What is the difference in playing for Long Beach State or the Sharks, in terms of level of play? Playing with the Sharks is a lot more fun and relaxing What do you like best about being an outfielder? I love being able to run. Is the transition from Long Beach State to the Sharks, with all new teammates as tough as it can seem? No, it is not difficult at all. We all get along really well. Do you enjoy playing the field or hitting more? I enjoy hitting a lot more; it is more exciting.

Hanging out at the lake What is the difference in playing for San Jose State or the Sharks, in terms of level of play? I think it is very similar; every player is very talented. What do you like best about pitching? I enjoy the one-on-one competition it is just me and the hitter. Is the transition from Long Beach State to the Sharks, with all new teammates as tough as it can seem? It is tough at first, but after a few games we all become good teammates. How do you get mentally prepared before each game? I just think about throwing strikes constantly. How do you feel about throwing to wooden bats as opposed to metal bats? The wooden bats separate an elite group of players. |
