Headed into tonight's game the Sharks are 0-4 at Historic Fleming Stadium this season. Wilmington picked up a win last night in Columbia where they hadn't won all season and will now look to complete a winning tour of the CPL South circuit with a win in Wilson. The clubs come in on opposite ends. The Tobs sit at 4-2 in second place while the Sharks are in fourth, three and a half games behind first place Florence, at 2-4. Max Friedman(Parkland C.C.) will start for the Sharks. The right hander lasted into just the third inning in a no decision last time out facing Asheboro. He will take a 1-2 record and a 4.39 ERA into this his sixth start of the season.
It took nine innings for the Sharks to score and 11 frames for them to win last night as the offense continues to struggle. Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure) had the game winning two RBI knock, but prior to that it was the Allen King(UNC-Wilmington) show as the catcher raised his average to .188 on the season with a single and a double. As a team the Sharks are hitting 13th in the league with a .224 batting average, while the Tobs are batting at .238, 10th in the CPL. Pitching numbers put the Sharks in the middle of the pack with a 3.84 ERA. The Tobs 2.86 ERA is second best in the league. The Sharks next home game is coming up Thursday night. It's St. Patty's Day in July as the Sharks host another Thirsty Thursday, presented by Front Street Brewery. Come out as CPL Green Week continues for green beer, and many other types of beer and soft drinks for just one dollar. The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the “Shark Tank” for an average of 1,650 per game.
