The Wilmington Sharks added Nebraska’s Ben Kline, College of Charleston’s Cole Rakar, and Southwest Minnesota State’s Adam Schrader to their ’09 roster Tuesday.

 

Kline will be back in Shark Blue and White for his second tour of duty. In the summer of 2008 he hit .244 in 24 games for the Sharks, driving in 12 and swiping four bags, seeing time at short and third. This spring at Nebraska he hit .242 with 13 runs scored and 15 RBI in 34 games.

 

Rakar will be the second Charleston Cougar on the squad this season joining catcher Kolby Epley. As a sophomore outfielder in ‘09 Rakar hit .317 with 12 home runs and 46 RBI while swiping 18 bases, getting caught only 3 times.

 

Right-hander Adam Schrader comes to the Sharks by way of Easton, Minnesota and Southwest Minnesota State. During his junior campaign in 2009, Schrader posted a 5-1 record with a 3.88 ERA and 67 strike outs over 60 and one third innings. Schrader spent the summer of 2008 playing for Sharks coach Jake Tenhouse on the Hornell Dodgers of the New York Collegiate Baseball League. With the Dodgers he posted a 2-1 record with a 1.30 ERA over 34 and two thirds innings.

  

The Sharks ’09 home schedule kicks of Thursday May 28, 2009 at the “Shark Tank” at Legion Stadium. It’s the first Thirsty Thursday of the season presented by Front Street Brewery. Come out and watch the Sharks take on the Columbia Blowfish and enjoy $1 beer and $1 soft drinks all night.

 

Thursday's game starts at 7 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m. Come out to the park early as the first 1,000 fans get a free Sharks magnet schedule presented by Project Assist and QuitlineNC.com. Miss USA will also be on hand from 6:15 to 6:45 to meet Sharks fans, take pictures and sign autographs.

 

The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the "Shark Tank" for an average of 1,650 per game.
