On Monday, June 16th, the Wilmington Sharks and Military All-Stars won't be the only major players of the evening.  Helping to make this great exhibition possible, Food Lion has stepped up as the title sponsor of the event.

food_lion.jpgFounded in 1957 under the name Food Town in Salisbury, North Carolina, Food Lion is a subsidiary of Brussels-based Delhaize Group.  They are one of the larger supermarket chains in the country operating 1,300 locations under the Food Lion name, or in affiliated stores such as Bloom, Bottom Dollar, Harvey’s, and Reid’s.

Currently, each store has over 28,000 different products, including 2,900 Food Lion brand products.  They employ around 73,000 people in 11 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.  Food Lion is able to keep their prices low and quality assurance high with technological advances in terms of store design, warehouse layouts and management, and maintaining energy-efficient facilities along with accurate integration with their suppliers.

Food Lion finds great value in the communities with which they operate in.  They are active in many causes such as the Children’s Miracle Network, America’s Second Harvest Food Banks, Easter Seals, the United Way, the American Red Cross, and local schools.
