A late lead slipped away for the Sharks in Columbia but two in the 11th sealed things as Wilmington took a 3-1 win Tuesday night. Tied at one in the 11th, Graham Fronk(Campbell) reached on an error with one down. A stolen base and two walks later, the bases were loaded for Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure). Hitless to that point the Sharks leading hitter would not disappoint, lacing a two run single to right center to stake his club to the final two run margin. J.C. Casey(Missouri State) spun another gem of a game, throwing seven scoreless frames allowing just four base hits and three walks. The right hander struck out four batters and ran his scoreless inning streak to 19 frames over his last three starts. The Sharks were held scoreless through eight frames. Adam Eggemeyer(SIU-Edwardsville) walked to start the eighth. He stole second then moved to third on a ground out. With two down a pitch sailed in the dirt to the back stop and Eggemeyer slid home with to break the deadlock. Up until the eighth it was a story of missed opportunities for the Sharks. Two Sharks reached via the walk with one down in the third but were stranded at first and second. Andrew Guerra(St. Louis) was hit by the pitch leading off the fourth to start a two out rally. A single from Allen King(UNC-Wilmington) put runners on the corners, but the third out came before a run and the Sharks stranded two. King started the rally himself in the seventh with a lead double. A walk put runners on first and second with nobody out. But a pop out and two strike outs later the Sharks still hadn't crossed the plate and after seven things were still tied at one. Clinging to a one run lead into the bottom of the ninth, a lead single off of Ryan McGrath(Wake Forest) came home to tie the ballgame. With the runner at second, a disputed pinch hit triple trickled down the first base line, called just fair, to bring the run home and send the Sharks to their sixth extra inning game on the season. McGrath though would hang in the box, throwing two scoreless in extras to pick up his first win of the season. Tyler Andersen(Utah) struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief. The Sharks next home game is coming up Thursday night. It's St. Patty's Day in July as the Sharks host another Thirsty Thursday, presented by Front Street Brewery. Come out as CPL Green Week continues for green beer, and many other types of beer and soft drinks for just one dollar. The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the “Shark Tank” for an average of 1,650 per game.
