For the third time this week the Sharks took a ball game into extras, and for the second time in seven days, dropped the contest, a 2-1 final in Wilson Saturday night. A lead-off walk and an error in the bottom of the tenth plated the second run of the night for the Tobs. D.J. Nordquist(Southern Polytechnic) takes the loss, his first of the season. Daniel Cropper(UNC-Wilmington) started for the Sharks. On the night the pride of Snow Hill, Maryland threw eight innings striking out three and allowing just one unearned run. With two down in the bottom of the fifth, an error at short-stop extended Cropper's duty. Two base hits later the Tobs had an unearned run off the Seahawk right hander. It was one of three defensive miscues the Shark made on the night. Ellis Lowe reached on the error for the Tobs in front of a single from Justin Vasquez. The very next batter, Zach Johnson, knocked a hard single to bring home the unearned tally for the Tobs. Trent Howard started for the Sharks throwing seven scoreless before leaving with a runner on in the eighth inning. Trailing 1-0 after seven, Greg Bachman(Austin Peay) led the eighth off reaching on an error. The Tennessean stole second ahead of an RBI double off the bat of Adam Gray(Mercyhurst) to tie things at one. Despite five errors, the Sharks defense played a roll in keeping the game close. Left-fielder Michael Rooney(UNC-Wilmington) made up for an early error traveling deep into foul territory to end a threat in the eighth. With two on and nobody out in that same eighth, catcher Allen King(UNC-Wilmington) showed quick reaction snagging a foul bunt out of the air with his bare hand to freeze the runners. The Sharks will be back home for a "Mothers Monday" to kick off Green Week. Kids eat a free meal with admission while adults get all you can eat for just ten dollars. The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the “Shark Tank” for an average of 1,650 per game.
