Two players, sophomores Ryne Harper (RHP) and Greg Bachman (3B/SS) from Austin Peay State University have signed with the Wilmington Sharks for the upcoming season.
This season, Ryne Harper has started off strong, holding opponents to a .208 batting average and has a 2.12 ERA. This is an improvement from his performance the previous season where he held batters to a .312 batting average and had 5.54 ERA.
In his second season at APSU, Bachman, started the season with a bang recording a .347 batting average and 16 RBI in 21 games. Last season with the Governors, he had a .269 batting average and 32 RBI in 56 games.
Bachman looks forward to playing away from familiar fans for the summer, as well as meeting new players from around the country.
“It is a really good experience going to different parts of the country getting used to fans who don't know who you are.” said Bachman. “Trying to make good impressions on them is a challenge to me and that makes playing the game much more interesting.”
Bachman played baseball last summer in the Clark Griffith League (CGL), another summer collegiate league with teams in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC, with the McLean Raiders. He had a .325 batting average, ninth in the league behind two of his teammates, and 27 RBI in 35 games, 33 of which, he started. Bachman will be bringing his skills to the Shark Tank this summer .
“Being far away from teammates isn't easy since you have to get to know your new teammates fast and learn how they play the game,” said Bachman of playing this summer,” but my teammate Ryne Harper, one of my best friends at Austin Peay, will be playing for the Sharks a well.”
As a leader on his collegiate team, joining a team loaded with other leaders can be challenging; Bachman is aware of that in addition to the role he expects to have on the team.
“My only role coming into the season is to help the team win the best that I can.” said Bachman.
