Two early home runs were not enough as the Sharks offense stalled late and Wilmington lost 6-2 in Florence Wednesday night.

Christian Overstreet(Missouri State) hit his third home run in two days in the first to put the Sharks up 1-0. After just missing one in his first at bat, Adam Eggemeyer(SIU-Edwardsville) picked up his sixth home run of the season with a solo shot to right center making it 2-0.

Ryne Harper(Austin Peay) started and gave up just three runs, including a solo home run, through five frames. The right hander walked three and struck out four, but takes the loss to move to 1-4 on the season.

The two home runs would prove to be the only offense on the night. The Sharks put runners on in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth but could not score, leaving a total of eight on base on the night.

D.J. Nordquist(Southern Polytechnic) allowed a run on three hits over two innings of relief, while Sean Toler(Missouri State) was touched up for two unearned runs in his one inning of relief. Wilmington falls to 3-9 on the second half of play.

The Sharks are on the road in Florence tomorrow but will be back for a "Thirsty Thursday" against the Wilson Tobs. It's dollar beer and dollar soft drinks as always presented by Front Street Brewery. Gates open at six, game time at seven.

The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the “Shark Tank” for an average of 1,650 per game.
