If a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, then for the Sharks a journey through the 2009 Coastal Plain Season begins with a trip to Thomasville, North Carolina.

The Hi-Tom’s Finch Field will be site of the only meeting between these two clubs this season. Last year the Sharks and Hi-Toms split a home and home set with each club defending their home field.

With a total of five Coastal Plain League Championships between the two franchises, the match-up didn’t lack for excitement in 2008. The Sharks got a ninth inning run to steal a 2-1 win at the “Shark Tank” on June 21st while the Hi-Toms walked off with a win in 11 innings on July 11th.

Starting the season on the road can be a daunting task, but the Sharks will not be gone for long. The Shark’s 2009 home schedule kicks of Thursday night May 28th against the Columbia Blowfish. Miss USA Kristen Dalton will be on hand to toss the first pitch and sing the national anthem. Get to the park early because the first 1,000 fans into the park will receive a Sharks magnet schedule presented by Project Assist and QuitlineNC.com. It’s also the first Thirsty Thursday of the season present by Front Street Brewery. Enjoy $1 beer and soft drinks all night. Gates open at 6 p.m. with first pitch set for 7 p.m.

The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the "Shark Tank" for an average of 1,650 per game.
