Extra Bunt, Extra Win Print E-mail

The Sharks made it interesting but took a 7-4 win in eleven against the SwampDogs Sunday afternoon.

With a runner on third, one down and two strikes in a tie ball game in the eleventh the Sharks stuck with the squeeze bunt after two missed attempts. Allen King(UNC-Wilmington) did not miss again, delivering a solid bunt to score Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure) with the eventual winning run.

Three late runs by the SwampDogs pushed things to extras, spoiling a great outing from Max Friedman(Parkland C.C.). The righty threw six and two thirds allowing three runs on five strike outs and just three hits.

Wilmington made three early errors behind spot starter Garrett Cooper(St. Louis) and fell 9-0 in Fayetteville Sunday night.

Cooper was called on to start when scheduled starter Ryne Harper(Austin Peay) was scratched. The St. Louis right hander lasted just three innings allowing five runs to score on six hits.

The Sharks were held to just six hits, while only one of those came with less than two outs in an inning. Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure) picked up two base hits, including a triple, to continue his hitting ways in 2009.

Wilmington put the tying run on second base in the bottom of the ninth Saturday night but could not fully overcome a 3-0 lead by Fayetteville and fell 3-2.

J.C. Casey(Missouri State) started and threw seven strong for the Sharks. The right hander allowed three runs on five hits in his seven innings of work. The lack of offensive support runs his record to 2-4.

Some support came off the bat of Andrew Guerra(St. Louis) who provided the Sharks offense on the night. The St. Louis Billiken blasted a two run home run to left through a cross wind to cut the Fayetteville lead to one.

Andrew Guerra went where only two other Sharks had gone before, while a certain lefty from the Cape Fear continued a reign of late inning terror on the mound.

Win, lose, draw, rain out, until the lights go out on the 2009 season the crack media relations staff of the Sharks will tirelessly work to bring you "Shark Bits" like these each day.
