Friday, 31 July 2009 05:28

What a night into a big day for Sharks baseball. A thrilling game last night, "Striking Out Cancer" tonight, its good to be a Shark.

Online bidding is still open for the pink jerseys to be worn by the Sharks tonight. Those proceeds will go to benefit cancer charities. Meanwhile, Redwolves and walk offs apparently have a lot in common and a North Carolina native will be making his last start of this season.

In a world full of tumult, "Shark Bits" still remain.

Extra Inns and Walk-Off Wins Print E-mail

It took going to their 12th extra innning contest of the season, and the ejection of their coach, but the Wilmington Sharks came away with a walk off win Thursday night, 2-1 over the Florence Redwolves.

The hero of the night, Alex Hill(UNC-Wilmington). The Seahawk stepped in with two on and one down in the bottom of the tenth and lofted the game winning double to left, sending the "Shark Tank" faithful home happy. Three hits in the inning came after head coach Jake Tenhouse brought life to the team after getting tossed arguing a reversed call.

It was a Seahawk kind of night, as Daniel Cropper(UNC-Wilmington) held the Redwolves scoreless through six frames on just two hits. In the no decision Cropper struck out five and did not walk a batter.

The Sharks made it interesting but took a 7-4 win in eleven against the SwampDogs Sunday afternoon.

With a runner on third, one down and two strikes in a tie ball game in the eleventh the Sharks stuck with the squeeze bunt after two missed attempts. Allen King(UNC-Wilmington) did not miss again, delivering a solid bunt to score Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure) with the eventual winning run.

Three late runs by the SwampDogs pushed things to extras, spoiling a great outing from Max Friedman(Parkland C.C.). The righty threw six and two thirds allowing three runs on five strike outs and just three hits.
