The Wilmington Sharks' Mike Alvarez was named the Rawlings Co-Hitter of the Week this week.

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Coastal Plain League announced Monday that Wilmington’s Mike Alvarez and Brett Nommensen of Edenton were named the Rawlings Co-Hitters of the Week for week four of action (June 23 – June 29).
Alvarez, a freshman from Florida Gulf Coast Community College, finished the week with a .500 average through six starts for the Sharks. He had 11 hits, including a pair of doubles to go with three runs scored and five RBIs. Alvarez also tallied 13 total bases, as well as a .591 slugging percentage and .520 on-base percentage. He was also walked twice and was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases. On the season, Alvarez is leading the CPL with a .404 average, and has racked up 38 hits, including four doubles, to go with 15 runs scored and 27 RBIs. He has 42 total bases to his account and also features a .447 slugging percentage, 18 walks, a .491 on-base percentage, and is 10-of-14 in stolen bases.
The Coastal Plain League is the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league, now in its twelfth season. Featuring 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, the CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with wooden bats during the summer months. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
