Shark Drop Second in a Row to Florence Print E-mail

The Sharks plated four in the bottom of the ninth but the Redwolves bats were too much as they knocked 15 hits to beat the Sharks 13-4. Click here and get filled in on what happened with "Shark Bytes."

 

Things started quickly for Florence off Sharks starter Matt Freeman(Nebraska). The Wolves picked up two runs in the top of the first, all with two outs. Florence added a single run off Freeman in the second then two more in the fifth.

Matt Patterson(Creighton) came on in relief in the sixth and gave up four earned runs on five hits in his two innings of relief. Peter Larson(Ferrum) was tagged for four earned in just two thirds of an inning of work.

The Sharks managed just one run and only four hits going into thier final at bat. Cory Lyda(Presbyterian) did lead of the inning with a double down the left field line a bases loaded walk drove him home two batters later. Mike Alvarez(Florida Gulf Coast) picked up an RBI single scoring Bobby Leeper(UNC-Wilmington) but all this was too little two late in the loss.

Freeman(0-1) took the loss going five innings giving up five runs on seven hits striking out 3. Redwolves starter L.A. Owens(1-0) got the win throwing seven, giving up just an unearned run.

The Sharks play the next two against the Columbia Blowfish. Tomorrow Wilmington will head down south, then back home for a Freaky Friday the 13th game at Buck Hardee Field. Wear your own costume out to the park and join in on the fun starting at 7pm.
