Road Unkind to Sharks as they Fall in Asheboro Print E-mail
Sat, July 12 2008

The Sharks were held to just one run on seven hits in their only trip to McCrary Park as they fell to the Copperheads 4-1.

Eric Callender(Southeastern Louisiana) started and threw into the seventh inning giving up just three earned runs. After giving up  two in the first, Callender held Asheboro down until an unearned run and a home run came home in the sixth and seventh. The righty's record dips to 3-4.

Offensively the Sharks looked to get right back into the ballcame as a run came home in the top of the second. A walk and a single put runners on second and third with two down. Daniel Parker (Illinois) came up with a big two out single that scored Neal Pritchard(Elon) from second.

Ryan Graepel(North Carolina) and Cory Lyda(Presbyterian) both had two hits as Wilmington fought hard to get back into the game. The Sharks put the lead-off runners on in the the fourth and fifth, but two Copperhead double plays squashed any further rally.

Righty Kyle Deese(Clemson) worked a scoreless inning and one third in relief allowing just one baserunner to keep hope alive in the ninth. But the Sharks could not find the late magic as they dropped thier fifth straight to fall to 16-21 overall.

Wilmington's road weary club will be back at the Shark Tank Sunday night for "Bark at the Park." The Fayetteville swampdogs are in town for the 5pm early evening matchup. All the fun starts at Buck Hardee when the gates open at 4pm.
