Pitchers Provide Only Offense in 32-5 Loss Print E-mail

Seven Sharks pitchers batted, and six position players pitched for Wilmington in a blow out in Fayetteville Saturday night. Click to listen to the recap on "Shark Bytes."

 

Dan Gerjets(George Mason) started and took the loss giving up the first nine runs, eight earned in just two innings of work. Brett Bloomquist(Appalachian State) gave up 12 more runs, eight earned, and Peter Larson(Ferrum) worked a scoreless inning and a third.

In a reversal of rolls, position players Cory Lyda(Presbyterian), Mike Alvarez(Florida Gulf Coast), John Nester(Clemson), Daniel Parker(Illinois) and Neal Pritchard(Elon) all came in to pitch. Only Alvarez held the Swampdogs off the board with a scoreless 8th inning.


The roll reversal continued into the top of the ninth with the Sharks trailing 32-1, seven sharks pitchers broke out the bats. Tyler White(Alabama) and Kyle Deese(Clemson) both had RBI singles, driving in Ryan Vander Tuig(San Jose State) and Eric Callender(Southeastern Louisiana) who reached to lead off the inning. Cory Burgess(USC-Sumter), Matt Patterson(Creighton) and Bryant Gaines(North Carolina) also batted as the Sharks sent ten to the plate and scored four runs.

Gerjets falls to 1-1 on the season with the loss moving the Sharks two games under .500 at 6-8.

Sunday is double header day at the Shark Tank. The Wilson Tobs are in town for a Father's Day "Props to Pops" double dip starting at 4pm. Come out to Buck Hardee Field and join in on a salute to dads everywhere.
