Two unearned runs in the top of seventh were the difference Monday night as the Sharks fell 4-3 to the Columbia Blowfish at the Shark Tank.
Kyle Barry(Madison Area Tech) took the loss giving up two earned runs on nine hits as he worked into the seventh. With two down an error on a grounder opened up the door for the two runs that beat the Sharks. At the plate Hunter Owen(Milsaps College) continued his tear since joining the Sharks. With one down in the bottom of the seventh Owen blasted his first home run of the season deep to right center to give the Sharks the short lived 3-2 lead. The first two runs came early for the Sharks. Ryan Graepel(North Carolina) led things off in the second with a single then came home on a Neal Pritchard(Elon) double. A John Nester(Clemson) sacrifice fly drove in Pritchard. Behind the plate Nester had a defensive gem of a ballgame throwing four runners out at second base on attempted steals. Clemson teammate Kyle Deese worked two scoreless innings of relief striking out two. The Sharks go on the road to face the Fayetteville Swampdogs Tuesday night. After an off day Wilmington will be back at Buck Hardee Thursday to again face the Swampdogs at 7pm. Its Mardi Gras night out at the Tank so don't miss out on what is sure to be an exciting night of Sharks baseball. |
