Bryant Gaines(North Carolina) struck out the side in the bottom of 2nd inning to set the tone for the rest of a dominating eight innings of a 3-1 Sharks win. It was a thrilling finish in Wilson Friday night. Gaines started the inning with a 3-0 lead, but was lifted after a single and a double. Chris Powell(Presbyterian) came in, and thats when things got interesting. An error brought one run home, then a single loaded the bases with nobody out. A grounder ticketed to right field clipped the foot of the runner from first. By rule the runner was out, and no one else could advance, leaving the bases loaded. Powell would then pick up his third save in six appearances with a strike out and grounder.Gaines held the Tobs scoreless through eight allowing the Sharks to get on the board first. After Matt Kirchner(Elon) reached on a fielders choice, Leeper tripled to deep left center to bring home one. Pritchard would put another ball in the air and bring a second run home with a sacrifice fly. After four and a half the Sharks had a 2-0 lead. Gaines would be given a bit more support in the top of the sixth. With one down Kolby Epley(College of Charleston) legged out a double with one down. An on a fly ball hit by Cory Lyda(Presbyterian) brought Epley home one batter later. The Tobs just managed seven hits off of Gaines as he struck out three and walked only two to pick up his fifth win of the season. The Sharks move to 21-24 on the season to stay in the hunt for a Petit Cup berth. The Sharks will take on the Tobs again Saturday night. Its Alternative Transit night out at Buck Hardee Field.
