First Half Ends on Sour Note Print E-mail

The Sharks dropped back to five hundred falling 3-2 in Wilson Monday night.

Both teams were held off the board through five innings. Ryan Vander Tuig(San Jose State) surrendered just two hits headed into the inning, but the Tobs took a 2-0 lead headed to the 6th. The Sharks would answer though as rain began to fall in the top of the 6th.

With one down Bobby Leeper(UNC-Wilmington) sped into second with a double to right center. After Kolby Epley(College of Charleston) was hit by the pitch, a fielders choice put runners on s2nd and 3rd. With two down Mike Alvarez(Florida Gulf Coast) came up big with a single to left to drive in two and tie the score.

The game was delayed by the rain directly after the Alvarez knock. After getting back underway the Sharks threatened but could not tie the score and fell back to even with one half of the Coastal Plain Season gone.

Vander Tuig threw six and two thirds giving up three runs, just two earned. The 6'6" righty worked nine up and nine down the first time through the Tob order. After a single in the bottom of the ninth, Vander Tuig gave way to Kyle Deese(Clemson) who threw one and two thirds innings giving up just an unearned run.

The Sharks return home tomorrow to kick off the second half against the Columbia Blowfish. Come on out to Buck Hardee Field for our Fourth of July Extravaganza starting at 7pm. Stick around after the game for a postgame fireworks show.
