For the Second straight outing J.C. Casey did not allow an earned run as he shut out Florence through eight in route to an 8-0 Shark win. With his exit just an inning shy of a second straight complete game, the Missouri State right hander threw eight innings of one hit ball, stiking out nine while walking four. Presbyterian righty, and Wilmington native, Chris Powell came on to nail down the final three outs. Click to listen to a "Shark Bytes" recap.
It was again Adam Eggemeyer, the CPL's leading hitter, sparking the Sharks offensively. After Andrew Guerra led off the game with a single, with one down, Eggemeyer drove the ball deep over the right field wall for an early 2-0 Wilmington advantage. The two in the first would chase Florence starter Matthew Jebb, as he would be hung with the loss in just one inning of work. A lead off walk got things going for the Sharks in the second. After working the free pass Austin Peay's Greg Bachman stole second and came home on a dribbler off the bat of Christian Overstreet that rolled passed the first baseman and into foul territory. Overstreet would end up on third and come home on a wild pitch. Defense became the story then as the Sharks turned two nifty double plays behind Casey to kill any threat of any Florence attack. Just one error for the Sharks on the night did not come back to cost the club. An Eggemeyer RBI single in the seventh inched the door partially closed, then an RBI double off Bachman's bat slammed it shut for the 8-0 final. The Sharks roll to 7-7 on the season as the Redwolves drop even at the 7-7 mark as well. Join the Sharks out at the "Shark Tank" for a Mother's Monday against the Catawba Valley Stars. The June 15th exhibition will feature kids eating free as well as all the fun you expect out at a ball game. Gates open at 6 with first pitch at 7. The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the “Shark Tank” for an average of 1,650 per game.
