Casey's Arm Carries, Guerra's Bat Delivers Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 July 2009 17:24

It took 12 innings but the Sharks plated across the only run of the ball game to walk off with the win against the Florence Redwolves Wednesday night.

Andrew Guerra(St. Louis) became the walk off wonder with a clutch two out single to bring Greg Bachman(Austin Peay) chasing around third to score the winning run. With one down in the 12th, Bachman would walk to set him self into scoring position. Then a batter later Guerra stepped up and produced the game winning RBI.

Not to be lost in the late heroics, a heroic 10 inning performance from starter J.C. Casey(Missouri State). The righty scattered five hits and three walks over the ten frames, striking out seven.

Nine hits, and just two runs. That was it as the Sharks fall in Columbia 3-2 Monday night.

Daniel Cropper's(UNC-Wilmington) lone mistake cost the Sharks as he surrendered a two run home run after a hit batsmen in the sixth to make it 3-2. Cropper threw seven strong giving up just three runs, striking out a season high 11 batters.

The Sharks could not cash in lead doubles in the fifth or sixth then squandered their best scoring chance leaving two on in the top of the eighth.

A one run lead was not enough in the ninth inning as the visiting Gastonia Grizzlies tied it at four, then went on to win 5-4 in 12 innings over the Sharks Wednesday night.

Sean Toler(Missouri State) walked  the lead man in the ninth and that run came around to score on a wild pitch to send things to the bottom of the ninth. The Sharks had the go ahead run 90 feet away but could not cash it in to send things to the extra frames.

Four Run Third Holds Up, Sharks Win Print E-mail
Monday, 22 June 2009 16:52

The Sharks snapped a six game skid with just enough offense and some clutch pitching late, to beat the Columbia Blowfish 4-3.

Daniel Cropper(UNC-Wilmington) picked up the win for the Sharks giving up just two runs through six innings, striking out five.

The Sharks offense spotted the righty four runs after the third. With one down two hit batsmen and a single loaded the bases for Adam Eggemeyer(SIU-Edwardsville) who laced a two run single to pick up his 19th and 20th RBI on the season. Not to be out done the very next batter, Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure) drove in two more runs with a single to make it 4-0.
