The Wilmington Sharks finish the regular season at Morehead City this evening with a crucial doubleheader with the Morehead City Marlins that could determine the Sharks playoff destiny for 2010. If Wilmington wins both games tonight, they will make the Coastal Plain League's Petitt Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2003, ending the longest playoff drought in the league. If they lose both games, they will not make the playoffs. Currently Wilmington stands at 26-27 in the overall standings after eliminating Columbia from playoff contention on Sunday with 2-0 and 8-0 victories. The Asheboro Copperheads finished their regular season on Sunday winning 4-1 over Fayetteville to improve their overall mark to 27-28. If the Sharks split their doubleheader today against Morehead City, then Wilmington will have to resume their July 17 game with Outer Banks on Tuesday, August 3 at Buck Hardee Field. That game is tied at two in the bottom of the sixth. If the Sharks win that game, they will go to the 2010 Petitt Cup Playoffs. If Outer Banks wins, then Asheboro goes to the playoffs. Fans can bring their July 17 ticket stubs to the park and get admission to tomorrow's game or pay $2 for a general admission ticket. If Wilmington makes the playoffs, they would host Game Two of the first round against either the Wilson Tobs or the Forest City Owls at Buck Hardee Field on Thursday, August 5. The Sharks media staff will be providing Twitter and Facebook updates throughout the night from Morehead City.
