Sharks Staying Local Print E-mail

The Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League (CPL) announced they have signed pitchers Tyler Smith and Justin Bradley, both from the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW).

Smith, a left-handed pitcher will make his collegiate summer baseball debut this season for the Sharks.   Currently a sophomore at UNCW, Smith appeared in 17 games during the 2009 season for the Seahawks, all of which were out of the bullpen.  Smith picked-up two wins coming against Michigan State and Hofstra during that 2009 season.

Born in Sandy Mush, NC, Smith was an All-State selection from East Rutherford High School.   While at East Rutherford, Smith helped his team to two state titles in four seasons.

A 6’4” right-handed pitcher, Bradley enters his first season with the Sharks this summer.  This season with the Seahawks, Bradley has made three appearances with one start.  He holds a 1.72 ERA in 15.2 innings.  In 2009 Bradley earned wins against Creighton, NC Central and NC State.

Bradley, a junior at UNCW was born in Wilmington and attended Ashley High School.  While at Ashley, Bradley earned All-State honors and was selected as the Wilmington Star News Player-of-the-Year.

The Wilmington Sharks are members of Coastal Plain League, a collegiate summer league of fifteen baseball teams located in North and South Carolina and Virginia.  The CPL will play a 60 game schedule between late-May and mid-August.
