The Wilmington Sharks (4-6) tallied 12 RBIs as a team to easily dispose of the visiting Columbia Blowfish (4-6) 12-3 in Coastal Plain League action Friday night. The Sharks had three big innings that proved to be the difference, as they plated four runs in both the fourth and eighth innings and also posted a three-run sixth in route to the win. Daniel Aldrich, Jake Mayers, Kenny Bryant, Aaron Preston and Casey Allison all drove in two RBIs in the game, while Russ Stupienski and Alex Freedman both picked up an RBI each. As a team, the Sharks totaled 16 hits on the night, with Justyn Carter, Mayers and Bryant each finishing with three-hit performances. Ross Whitley (2-1) picked up the win for the Sharks, throwing 3-2/3 innings out of the bullpen and allowing only two hits in that span. Ryan Gunther was saddled with the loss for Columbia after allowing five runs in five innings of work. The Sharks plated their first run of the night in the third inning when Carter scored on an RBI single by Aldrich before posting a four spot on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. Columbia plated a run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth, but Wilmington added to its lead with three in the sixth inning and four runs in their final at-bat in the eighth inning for the comfortable margin. The Sharks hit the road for their next three games, playing in Morehead City both Saturday and Sunday before taking on Florence Monday night. They return to the Shark Tank Tuesday, June 14 when they will host the Thomasville Hi-Toms with a 7:05 start time. |
