Sharks Sign Wilmington Native Matt Willis and Two Other Outfielders Print E-mail

The Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League (CPL) announced they have signed three outfielders to their 2010 roster: Matt Willis, Richie Allen, and Tripp Faulk.

Willis, a junior centerfielder at Barton College will be coming home this summer to play for the Sharks.  In 2009 for the Bulldogs, Willis played in 25 games with his best performance coming against Francis Marion, where he went 4-4, smacking one double and scoring two runs.  The Wilmington native played for the Vikings at John T. Hoggard High School.

A 5’9” outfielder, Allen makes his way to the Sharks this season via Eastern Kentucky University.  Allen, currently a junior, began his collegiate career playing for Lower Columbia College in Longview, Washington.  For the Red Devils he hit .367 as the leadoff man, was second on the team with 51 hits, and knocked in 22 runs.  For his efforts, Allen was named a first team Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges All-Star.

Faulk, a 38th round draft pick of the Atlanta Braves, will be making his summer collegiate league debut this summer for the Sharks.  Faulk, hit .407 his Senior season for North Myrtle Beach High School. Faulk, was named All-State, Toast of the Coast and All-Region as he won the regional batting title. He is a three-time All-Region selection. North Myrtle Beach won the regional championship in 2007. Faulk has played in the East Coast Showcase (Lakeland, Fla.), the Area Code Games (Long Beach, Calif.) and the Palmetto Games (Columbia, S.C.).  A freshman at Wingate University, Faulk was born and raised in Little River, SC.

The Wilmington Sharks are members of Coastal Plain League, a collegiate summer league of fifteen baseball teams located in North and South Carolina and Virginia.  The CPL will play a 59 game schedule between late-May and mid-August.
