MOREHEAD CITY, N.C.-- Behind a one-hitter from Zach Taylor (W, 4-2), the Wilmington Sharks stayed alive in the CPL playoff picture with a 3-1 win over the Moreahead City Marlins on Monda night.
The Marlins took an early lead in the second when Zach Borenstein scored on a throwing error by Kenny Bryant. The Sharks tied it up in the third when Bryant's RBI groundout with the bases loaded scored Aaron Miller. The winning runs came in the fourth when Marlins starter D.J. Jauss (L, 0-2) got a little wild. Ben Fish reached on a throwing error by Jauss, allowing Matt Willis to score from second. Richie Allen then scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-1. That was all the cushion Taylor needed as he went the complete game (seven innings), allowing only one hit, one unearned run and striking out six. The one hit came in the seventh inning on a slow-roller to the left side that was ruled a hit by the official scorer. The Sharks, still alive for the final seed in the playoffs, will resume their July 17 game with Outer Banks on Tuesday, August 3 at Buck Hardee Field. That game is tied at two in the bottom of the sixth. If the Sharks win that game, they will go to the 2010 Petitt Cup Playoffs. If Outer Banks wins, then Asheboro goes to the playoffs. Fans can bring their July 17 ticket stubs to the park and get admission to tomorrow's game or pay $2 for a general admission ticket. |
