After a 3-2 win in 12 innings over the Florence RedWolves June 5, the Wilmington Sharks once again traveled to Florence in an attempt to move to an even 4-4 on the season. However, the RedWolves jumped out early and never looked back to send the Sharks home with an 8-1 defeat.
The RedWolves (7-5) didn’t waste any time in the first, scoring when Sharks (3-5) catcher Nate Horton recorded a throwing error, allowing Cory Tilton to score. A Trey Hernandez single through the left side allowed John Frost to score, bringing the score to 2-0 Redwolves. Horton made up for his error in the top of the second when he led off the inning with a home run. However RedWolves starting pitcher Patrick Dolan did not allow another Sharks hit in his four innings pitched. The bats remained silent until the seventh inning, when the Redwolves exploded for six runs, which was capped off by a three-run homerun by Frost to make it an 8-1 game. The Sharks struggled again on offense, managing just five hits to the RedWolves 11. Atlee Pearson picked up the loss for the Sharks to go to 1-1 on the season in his three innings of work. Florence’s Sam O’Neill got the win for Florence. The Sharks return to action on Tuesday, June 8th when they host the Columbia Blowfish on Time Warner Cable’s Two Fer Tuesday and Budwesier Party on the Patio night. Fans can get two tickets, two hot dogs and two drinks all for the price of one. First pitch is at 7:05. |
